All species of Scented Myrtles grow in the rainforest along the eastern coast. They are bushy trees or shrubs with dense clusters of flowers. After flowering, a calyx lobe persists resembling the flowers.
Backhousia citriodora and Backhousia anisata have highly scented leaves when crushed and are now used in the bush food industry.
They all make great garden subjects. A hedge of Backhousia citriodora, Backhousia bancrofti or Backhousia myrtifolia looks very good.
